Texas Store Owner Defends Himself Against Armed Robbers, Parent Demands Expulsion of Students Accused of Endangering Allergic Son

A store owner in Texas bravely defended himself with his own firearm when two hooded suspects entered his shop and held him at gunpoint on November 2. In a separate incident, a high school parent in Texas is demanding the expulsion of two students accused of intentionally exposing her son, who has a severe peanut allergy, to peanuts. The parent, Shawna Mannon, spoke out during a Lake Travis ISD school board meeting on Wednesday night, recounting how two football players allegedly placed peanuts inside her son’s locker, knowing it could potentially be fatal for him, according to FOX 7.

Mannon stated that her son’s teammates had inquired about his peanut allergy and asked if it could kill him. Her son confirmed that it could, prompting the students to proceed with their dangerous act. The school district has confirmed that two varsity football players indeed placed peanut products in the student’s locker at Lake Travis High School. When her son discovered the peanuts in his locker and touched them, he immediately developed hives on his arms.

During the meeting, several community members expressed their support for Mannon and her son. Belinda Vaca, who tragically lost her child due to a peanut allergy incident, also voiced her advocacy for those affected by such actions. Another individual from the area called for mandatory expulsion as the appropriate punishment for this serious offense, in accordance with the LTISD Student Code of Conduct.

In response to the incident, Lake Travis ISD stated that the district attorney is currently reviewing the case. The school district further confirmed that the students involved have faced disciplinary measures. The district emphasized that the privacy of the minor students involved must be protected under federal privacy laws, preventing them from publicly disclosing the specific consequences. However, the district clarified that rumors of peanut butter being spread on a helmet or uniform are false. The LTISD Police Department has conducted an investigation and submitted a report to the Assistant District Attorney’s Office for review.

The incident has sparked concerns and discussions on social media, with misinformation being spread. The district emphasized the importance of adhering to legal and ethical guidelines and awaiting a final determination from the Assistant District Attorney’s Office.

While this incident unfolds, the debate surrounding the rising prevalence of peanut allergies and the responsibility of schools and students to accommodate and protect individuals with severe allergies continues.

In conclusion, this incident highlights the importance of awareness and sensitivity towards individuals with severe allergies. It also underscores the need for appropriate consequences for those who intentionally endanger the lives of others. The district’s response to this incident will likely set a precedent for future cases involving similar offenses.
