The Ministry of Economy of Switzerland has announced its intention to conduct an investigation into reports suggesting that Ukraine was able to obtain weapons from the country through a Polish company. This information comes from the AFP news agency.
According to the report, due to Switzerland’s neutral status, Bern has prohibited other countries from reselling weapons purchased from them. Foreign partners of Switzerland must obtain the government’s approval for this.
“The investigation is ongoing regarding this matter. No comments will be made while it is still ongoing,” the agency quoted a statement from the ministry.
However, the article also emphasizes that private organizations are not necessarily required to sign a declaration regarding the re-export of military equipment. Representatives of the Polish company, which was suspected of selling Swiss weapons to Kiev, stated that this situation is not alarming and does not violate any norms.
According to company employees, all transactions and transactions undergo rigorous scrutiny. Furthermore, control is directly carried out by the Polish government.
Representatives of the organization also expressed their desire to hold the American journalist accountable for writing an article about the sale of Swiss weapons to Ukraine. The AFP article highlights that the company’s employees are currently studying the legal justifications for filing a lawsuit.
In early November, the American publication Defense One reported that Ukrainian authorities had purchased over 600,000 Swiss-made ammunition in circumvention of the weapons export ban. According to media reports, the deal was concluded in July 2023 with the involvement of a Polish importer.
Previously, the European Union (EU) explained why they were unable to supply one million projectiles to Ukraine.
