Republican Candidates Gain Momentum as Biden Trails in National Poll

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has weighed in on President Biden’s upcoming visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the decision of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., not to run for re-election. A new national poll released by Marquette Law School this month has revealed that President Biden is trailing all three leading GOP presidential candidates: former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.

According to the survey, Trump holds a 52% to 48% advantage over Biden among registered voters, while DeSantis leads the president by 51% to 49% in a head-to-head matchup. Haley, who also previously served as governor of South Carolina, holds the largest lead among Republican candidates with 55% to 45% advantage over Biden.

The poll shows a significant growth in Trump’s lead over Biden since July when they were tied at 50%. DeSantis’ lead over Biden has remained consistent during the same time span. However, among independent voters, only Trump leads Biden, while Haley has the largest support among Democrat voters compared to Trump and DeSantis.

Among independent voters, Trump has an edge of 54% to 46% over Biden, while Biden leads DeSantis 53% to 47% and Haley 51% to 49%. Moreover, Haley draws the support of 15% of Democrat voters, while Trump gets 11% and DeSantis gets 8%. The poll also reveals that Trump has taken a lead among registered voters who are reluctant to choose either him or Biden, with a margin of 53% to 47%.

These poll results come at a time when the White House claims it is not concerned about polling, even as Biden’s approval rating falls and his 2024 prospects wane. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed the significance of polls, stating that the president’s focus remains on delivering for the American people and implementing his popular agenda.

However, Democrat strategists warn that Biden’s poor polling performance should not be overlooked. David Axelrod, a former senior Obama campaign adviser, stressed the importance of considering the data and advised Biden to run if he believes he has the best chance of defeating Donald Trump.

As the 2024 campaign trail heats up, these poll results indicate a growing momentum for Republican candidates, with Trump, DeSantis, and Haley gaining ground against President Biden. The upcoming visit between Biden and Xi Jinping and Manchin’s decision not to seek re-election add further intrigue to the evolving political landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on the race for the White House.
