The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have targeted the home of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Gaza Strip. The army’s press service announced this in a Telegram channel.
According to the IDF, the incident occurred on the night of November 15. They claim that Haniyeh’s residence was used by Hamas militants, and it was a frequent meeting place for senior leaders of the group.
Prior to this, Israeli army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus stated that the IDF had destroyed more than 60 members of the Lebanese movement Hezbollah.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated after thousands of Hamas militants infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on October 7, when Hamas announced the start of Operation “Flood of Al-Aqsa.” In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.
The objective of Israel’s counter-operation, known as “Operation Iron Swords,” was to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages, including foreigners, and destroy Hamas. From the first day of the operation, Israel carried out massive rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip as part of achieving this goal. Additionally, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza only resumed through the Rafah checkpoint after October 20, with the volume of aid being deemed insufficient.
On October 27, Israel announced an “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation is unknown, but hundreds of thousands of Palestinians had already evacuated their homes and sought refuge in shelters and the southern part of the enclave prior to its commencement. As of November 5, fighting continues in the center of Gaza, as the IDF has surrounded the city and cut off its supply lines.
