US General Downplays Direct Threat from Russia, Contradicting State Department’s Stance

The head of the US Northern Command and leader of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), General Glen VanHerck, has stated that the United States does not currently see a direct threat to its security from Russia, according to TASS.

VanHerck mentioned that the Pentagon is closely monitoring “Russia’s actions worldwide.” According to the agency, Moscow has shown significant activity in the air and at sea, surpassing levels from last February.

“I do not see a direct threat to our security, although we are addressing these issues and monitoring them on a daily basis,” VanHerck said.

Commenting on the situation in the Middle East, he added that he does not have information regarding specific threats to US security.

On November 9th, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the deputy chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, Zhang Youxia, stated that military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Beijing has reached a new level.

Earlier, the US Secretary of State claimed that Russia and China currently pose the “most acute threat to global order” on the planet.
