A Connecticut truck driver charged in a highway crash that resulted in the death of a New Hampshire state trooper has indicated that he will change his plea from not guilty to guilty. The crash, which occurred in fall 2021, took the life of Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherrill. Jay Medeiros, hailing from Ashford, Connecticut, was later charged with negligent homicide and reckless conduct.
According to authorities, Medeiros was operating a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth when it collided with Sherrill’s cruiser. The trooper was on duty at the site of an overnight paving project. The incident caused significant public outcry and grief within the law enforcement community.
Medeiros recently filed an intent to change his plea, expressing his willingness to accept guilt. The plea and subsequent sentencing for Medeiros are scheduled for January.
