Russia and India Discuss Joint Production of Aviation Weapons

During the Dubai Airshow 2023, the CEO of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, announced that the company is in discussions with Indian enterprises to establish production facilities for aviation weapons for the Indian Air Force. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Mikheev revealed that they are working with both private and state-owned Indian enterprises to organize the joint manufacture of aviation weapons and their integration into India’s existing aviation fleet.

Mikheev emphasized that the stringent import requirements imposed by Indian counterparts and the demands set by India for its military-technical cooperation partners under the Make In India program do not intimidate the Russian side. The Make In India program aims to maximize the localization of arms production in Indian facilities and technology transfer.

Mikheev highlighted that Rosoboronexport has been working under conditions similar to those outlined in the Make In India program long before its adoption. He reminded that the Russian side, in collaboration with Indian enterprises, has already supplied India’s defense ministry with Su-30MKI aircraft, tanks, other armored vehicles, and projectiles.

The CEO of Rosoboronexport also emphasized that a plant in India is currently manufacturing AK-203 Kalashnikov rifles, which will eventually achieve full localization.

Earlier, Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec, stated that there has been an increased demand for Russian military equipment abroad, thanks to its performance during special operations in Ukraine.

Recently, the BRICS alliance expanded to include 11 countries.
