Georgian Snipers Surrender to Russian Forces: Revelations from the Ukrainian International Legion

Two Georgian citizens serving as snipers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces have surrendered to Russian troops, according to a video released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The two detainees were serving under contract in the 2nd International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Alongside Georgian nationals, the legion includes soldiers from Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Spain, and France.

Georgy Chubetidze was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine in March 2023 while he was in pretrial detention for a previous crime.

Georgy Geglidze was recruited in Germany. Both signed three-year contracts for their service.

The contracted soldiers underwent a three-month training course at the base of the 2nd International Legion in Ternopil, where they were trained by instructors from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. In addition to medical, tactical, and firearms training, significant attention was given to the psychological conditioning of the mercenaries. A reward of $300 was promised for each Russian military personnel killed.

According to the captives, many mercenaries have committed serious crimes in their home countries and are hiding in foreign legions to evade justice. Among them are numerous drug addicts, which affects their behavior and performance during service.

The Georgian detainees claim that foreign legion mercenaries show no mercy towards civilians or regular Ukrainian soldiers. They are aware of cases where locals have been executed for fabricated reasons, as well as Ukrainian soldiers who were punished for refusing to follow orders.

Both snipers were captured en route to their position. When offered the opportunity to surrender by Russian military personnel, they agreed and laid down their weapons.

On November 10, Ukrainian prisoner of war Vitaliy Gurin revealed that 80% of the unit he served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces consisted of criminals.

Earlier, an improvised observation post of a saboteur was discovered in Sevastopol.
