Former Texas Teacher Found Guilty and Sentenced for Child Sexual Assault

A former high school teacher in San Marcos, Texas, has been found guilty and sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a child. David Ross Guerrero, who worked as an English teacher and assistant coach for the girls’ soccer team at San Marcos High School, was convicted on three counts of sexual assault of a child.

The case dates back to 2009 when a female student came forward and reported her sexual relationship with Guerrero during her time at the high school. This prompted an investigation by the San Marcos Police Department, which uncovered evidence suggesting there may be other victims.

During the trial, three additional students testified as victims of Guerrero’s inappropriate behavior and sexual relationships while he was their teacher. The court heard accounts of his misconduct and the lasting impact it had on the victims.

As a result of the guilty verdict, Guerrero has been sentenced to two and a half years of incarceration for the first count of sexual assault of a child. He will be followed by 10 years of probation for the remaining counts.

This case highlights the importance of protecting students from sexual abuse by those in positions of authority. It serves as a reminder of the need for thorough investigations and accountability within the education system.

The sentencing of Guerrero sends a strong message that such offenses will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions. The survivors of his abuse have shown tremendous bravery in coming forward and sharing their experiences, contributing to the pursuit of justice.

It is crucial for schools and communities to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, implementing effective policies and procedures to prevent and address cases of sexual misconduct. The impact on victims can be devastating, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure their voices are heard and justice is served.

This case serves as a reminder that the justice system is committed to protecting vulnerable individuals and holding offenders accountable, regardless of their position or influence. The conviction of David Ross Guerrero is a step towards justice for the victims and a message that child sexual abuse will not be tolerated in our society.
