First Batch of AK-203 Rifles Produced in Joint Russian-Indian Venture

In a significant development, the first batch of AK-203 rifles has been produced at a joint Russian-Indian manufacturing facility, with the weapons currently undergoing testing. This update comes from Dmitry Shugaev, the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS), as reported by TASS.

According to Shugaev, the production of AK-203 rifles in India is proceeding in accordance with the contractual agreements, and the serial production has been initiated. The initial batch of rifles has been manufactured and is currently undergoing testing.

The joint venture, known as IRRPL, is based in the city of Korwa in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The establishment of this facility was agreed upon in 2019.

The AK-203 rifle, chambered in 7.62 caliber, is a variant of the Kalashnikov’s “200 series” rifle. Its main feature is the ability to mount modern sighting systems on the Picatinny rail, along with improved ergonomics due to the presence of a folding telescopic stock, a new pistol grip, and a flash suppressor.

On November 3, it was reported that Kalashnikov Concern had fulfilled its contract for the delivery of AK-12 rifles to the Russian Armed Forces ahead of schedule.

Earlier, the Indian Defense Minister emphasized that military cooperation between India and Russia is a cornerstone of the partnership between the two countries.
