EU committed to supplying Ukraine with ammunition, but progress falls short

The EU’s head of diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has stated that the EU remains committed to supplying Ukraine with 1 million projectiles by March 2024, despite only accomplishing 30% of this goal since February 2023. This information was reported by TASS.

Borrell emphasized that the EU is dedicated to the initial objective of providing ammunition to Ukraine. Currently, the task has been completed to a 30% extent, with approximately 300,000 projectiles delivered to Ukraine.

Furthermore, Borrell highlighted that orders for an additional 180,000 projectiles have already been placed. However, due to the EU’s significant arms exports, it is crucial to redirect these supplies to Ukraine.

The head of the EU’s diplomacy also called on all EU member states to increase military supplies to Ukraine, particularly in terms of air defense systems and winter gear.

Previously, Borrell stated that the EU does not have its own ammunition depot, and therefore, it is the responsibility of member states to supply projectiles to Ukraine.

This statement was made in response to a question regarding whether the EU would be able to fulfill its promise of supplying Ukraine with 1 million artillery projectiles by March 2024.

Earlier, President Zelensky revealed the challenges faced by Ukraine in shifting the conflict to Russian territory.
