Russian-backed Separatists Foil Ukrainian Forces’ Rotation Attempts in Donbas

In a significant development, Russian-backed separatist forces have successfully thwarted five attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) to rotate their units in the South Donbas region. This information was shared by Oleg Chekhov, the chief spokesperson for the “Vostok” group, with RIA Novosti.

According to Chekhov, with artillery support, they managed to prevent the rotation of UAF units in the South Donbas region. He further stated that they eliminated enemy personnel and equipment in the areas of Nikolske, Uglehorsk, and Staromykhailivka. Overall, the Ukrainian forces lost seven mortar squads in the process.

Chekhov highlighted that their strikes targeted the 31st Mechanized Brigade, the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade, and the 128th Territorial Defense Brigade of the UAF. Two BMP armored vehicles and an American M777 howitzer were destroyed in the operation.

Back in October, a Russian colonel had revealed the powerful weapons being utilized by the Russian Armed Forces in the special operation zone. According to Yuri Knutov, a retired colonel and director of the Air Defense Forces Museum, Russian fighters are employing heavy flamethrower systems called “Solntsepek” and “Tosochka” in the area.

In a previous analysis, the expert had also highlighted the advantages of the Russian missile “Sarmat” over the American Minuteman III.
