Decrease in Attacks on Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant Raises Concerns

The number of attempted attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Energodar has significantly decreased, according to Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops (RCBD). In an interview with the newspaper “Krasnaya Zvezda,” Kirillov stated that the attempts to disrupt the functionality of the power plant and cause damage to its infrastructure have noticeably decreased compared to the beginning of the special military operation.

During this period, Kirillov mentioned that only unmanned aerial vehicles conducting reconnaissance are being detected and intercepted. He emphasized the need to understand the consequences of compromising the security of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, as it could lead to radiation leaks and contamination of water bodies, soil, and the atmosphere. Kirillov further added that any actions aimed at destabilizing the operation of nuclear power plants should be considered as nuclear terrorism.

On November 5th, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of targeting residential buildings in Energodar.

Earlier, the potential consequences of an explosion at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant were assessed in Ukraine.
