France to Cease Arms Supply to Ukraine, Shifting Procurement Responsibility

France has declared its intention to halt the transfer of weapons from its arsenals to Ukraine, according to the French Minister of Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. In an interview with LCI, Lecornu revealed that negotiations are underway with Ukrainian counterparts to encourage Ukraine to purchase new howitzers using funds from a special fund. This move will shift the responsibility of weapon procurement directly to Ukraine, who will then have to source arms from French manufacturers.

France has been providing significant assistance to Ukraine, focusing primarily on two military supply directions: air defense systems and transportation equipment. On November 8, it was announced that France will allocate an additional €200 million to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

This decision by France comes amidst increasing concerns about the role of the military industry in perpetuating global conflicts. Pope Francis recently highlighted the impact of the military industry on the world, suggesting that the world is engulfed in war due to its influence.

The move by France to cease arms supply to Ukraine marks a significant shift in the dynamics of the conflict, as it places greater responsibility on Ukraine to secure its own weaponry. This decision will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for both Ukraine and the ongoing war in the region.
