Ukrainian Counteroffensive Fails to Make Progress, Stalling Frontline Situation

The war in Ukraine has reached a stalemate, with the much-anticipated counteroffensive that began on June 4th failing to achieve significant territorial gains for either side, according to British publication The Economist.

Citing aggregated satellite data on combat activity in the conflict zone, the publication highlights a significant decrease in the intensity of fighting in October, following a surge in August with the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) launching attacks in the direction of Rabotino and a Russian offensive on Avdiivka in mid-October. While these satellite data indicate a cessation of active UAF operations, the British journalists point out that the amount of territory controlled by both sides, as indicated by satellite data, shows that the outcome of this offensive was practically negligible.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces responded to the remarks made by Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny about the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

On November 2nd, Zaluzhny stated that the Ukrainian conflict was transitioning into a protracted form, which poses significant risks for the country.

Previously, President Zelensky revealed the obstacles preventing Ukraine from shifting the fighting onto Russian territory.
