Ukraine Increases Defense Budget for the Next Year

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has announced that its expenditures for the next year will amount to 1.164 trillion hryvnias, or $32.3 billion. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

According to the statement, the defense ministry’s expenses will be allocated as follows: 862 billion hryvnias (almost $23 billion), or 74.1%, will be used for the maintenance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service.

The funds will be directed towards salaries, uniforms, ammunition, food, and personal protective equipment.

Previously, Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, wrote on social media that the majority of the funds requested by US President Joe Biden from Congress for Kyiv will be used for military purposes. Some of them will also be allocated to the Pentagon to replenish the weapons transferred from its own stockpiles. The ambassador explained that $18 billion is intended for replenishing defense supplies from US military warehouses and for reimbursement of expenses for services, military education, and training provided to the Ukrainian government.

Earlier, Biden called on Congress to continue uninterrupted supply of weapons to Ukraine.
