Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency recently released an audio recording in which a suspected member of the radical Palestinian group Hamas discusses the possibility of using ambulance vehicles for transportation. This revelation, reported by Times of Israel and Yedioth Ahronoth, sheds light on the tactics employed by Hamas militants.
In the recording, the individual, believed to be a member of Hamas, engages in a conversation with a resident of the Gaza Strip. The resident asks if an ambulance can be sent to him, to which the suspected Hamas member responds, “There are ambulances that leave and return. I can go in any ambulance.”
Furthermore, the Shin Bet security agency has published testimonies from captured members of Hamas’ elite unit called “Nuhba.” These members admitted that the radical group possesses its own fleet of ambulance vehicles, which outwardly resemble those used by doctors. This deceptive practice is utilized to avoid being targeted by IDF. One of the militants confessed that ambulances are used during battles for purposes such as evacuating commanders, as well as transporting food, weapons, and other cargo.
During the interrogation, members of the “Nuhba” unit also disclosed that their leaders hide in medical facilities, particularly in the Al-Shifa hospital, while ammunition is concealed under schools, mosques, and hospitals. Israel asserts that Palestinian militants exploit civilian structures and use innocent civilians as human shields.
