Deadly Rocket Strike During Ceremony Claims Lives of Ukrainian Soldiers in Zaporizhia

Several high-ranking members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) were killed in a rocket strike during a ceremony honoring the personnel of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade in the Zaporizhia region controlled by Kiev. The Washington Post reports on this tragic incident.

According to the publication, the ceremony turned into a “bloody massacre,” resulting in the deaths of at least 19 military servicemen, including several senior officers.

The report states that approximately 100 soldiers were present at the event. Doctors who arrived at the scene stated that they had not witnessed anything like this since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Prior to this, the governor of the Zaporizhia region, Yevhenii Balitskyi, had announced that the Russian Armed Forces had destroyed more than five Leopard tanks in the past 10 days.

He did not specify which exact Leopard tanks were targeted. It is reported that almost all tanks were destroyed by barrages of “Lancet” ammunition and kamikaze drones.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, during the special operation in Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed 13,000 tanks and other armored vehicles of the UAF, as well as 15,000 units of special military automotive equipment belonging to the enemy. Additionally, it is reported that 1,182 Ukrainian combat vehicles of rocket artillery systems and nearly 7,000 field artillery guns and mortars have been eliminated.

Earlier, President Zelensky revealed the obstacles preventing Ukraine from shifting the hostilities to Russian territory.
