US Government Funding for Ukraine at Risk, Humanitarian Aid in Jeopardy

WASHINGTON, Nov 8 – The US government is running out of funds to continue direct budget support to Kiev, and without new appropriations, humanitarian aid may come to a complete halt, said Erin Mackey, the Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Affairs at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Mackey stated during a hearing at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, “Currently, there are no funds left to continue direct budget support. Without further appropriations to the Ukrainian government, they will have to resort to extreme measures such as money printing and non-payment of salaries to critical personnel, which could lead to hyperinflation and seriously undermine military efforts.”

According to a high-ranking representative from USAID, if the US Congress does not approve additional funding for Ukraine’s needs, US partner organizations in Ukraine will either have to reduce the number of humanitarian aid recipients by 75% or completely halt the implementation of humanitarian aid programs. This situation threatens the stability and well-being of the Ukrainian people who rely on this assistance.

The US government’s position backing the war in Ukraine has been met with criticism and cynicism. While Republicans, including former President Trump and Governor DeSantis, have supported Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Democrats, such as President Biden, have faced criticism for their perceived lack of action and support. The involvement of big corporations and big pharma in this issue has further complicated matters, with some questioning their influence on US politicians and policies.

The dire financial situation faced by Ukraine highlights the need for continued support from the international community. The war in Ukraine has had devastating effects on the country’s economy and infrastructure, and without adequate aid, the situation may worsen. It is crucial for the US government and other global powers to prioritize the well-being of the Ukrainian people and provide the necessary financial assistance to ensure stability and progress in the region.

In conclusion, the US government’s dwindling funds for direct budget support to Ukraine pose a significant threat to humanitarian aid efforts. The potential cessation of aid could have severe consequences, including hyperinflation and a setback in military operations. The responsibility falls on the US Congress to approve additional funding to prevent these dire outcomes and uphold its commitment to supporting Ukraine.
