Poll Shows Concerns Over President Biden’s Re-election Campaign

Former Clinton adviser Mark Penn gives his take on President Biden’s re-election campaign on ‘America Reports.’ A national poll released on Tuesday reveals growing concerns about President Biden’s ability to secure re-election next year. The survey, conducted by CNN, indicates that former President Donald Trump would lead Biden 49% to 45% among registered voters in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup. This represents a widening margin from the 47% to 46% lead Trump held in the same poll conducted in late August.

The poll also highlights Biden’s struggling re-election campaign, with a 39% to 61% approval/disapproval rating and nearly three-quarters of respondents believing that things are going poorly in the country. Furthermore, only a quarter of respondents believe that Biden has the stamina to serve in the White House. These findings add to a series of recent surveys that have raised concerns among Democrats about Biden’s chances in the 2024 election.

A recent poll from Siena College and the New York Times further reinforces Trump’s potential advantage over Biden in crucial battleground states. The survey suggests that Trump would outperform Biden in hypothetical matchups in five of the six states that Biden narrowly carried in 2020. This indicates a decline in support for Biden among Black and Hispanic voters, as well as younger voters, who have traditionally been key parts of the Democratic Party’s base.

While the Siena/New York Times survey shows Biden losing to Trump, it also suggests that an unnamed generic Democratic nominee would defeat Trump by eight points in the 2024 presidential election. Another CBS News national poll released over the weekend indicates Trump leading Biden by a margin of 51% to 48% in a likely 2024 showdown.

Donald Trump remains the clear front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, with his lead expanding over other Republican contenders. Trump’s support among Republican voters has been bolstered by his historic status as the first former or current president to face multiple indictments. The charges, including attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss, have not deterred his base.

In addition to trailing Trump, the CNN poll also shows Biden at a disadvantage in hypothetical matchups with other potential Republican candidates. Against former ambassador Nikki Haley, Biden is down by six points, while a matchup with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suggests a two-point deficit, within the survey’s margin of error. In a four-way race involving independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, Trump leads Biden 41% to 35%, with Kennedy at 16% and West at 4%.

The Biden campaign has responded to the poll results by highlighting past instances where predictions made more than a year in advance have been proven wrong. They point to Obama’s successful re-election in 2012, despite earlier polls predicting defeat for the incumbent. Similarly, the campaign dismisses grim forecasts for President Biden in the 2022 midterms as inaccurate.

The survey also sheds light on the current state of the presidential nomination races. Trump enjoys 61% support among GOP voters, while DeSantis follows with 17% and Haley with 10%. Among Democrats, Biden leads with 71% support, followed by Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota at 11% and author Marianne Williamson at 8%.
