The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office has announced that the Israeli Intelligence Agency, Mossad, in collaboration with Brazilian intelligence services and international partners, successfully prevented a terrorist attack in Brazil. The attack was planned by the Lebanese movement Hezbollah, with funding from Iran. This development has raised concerns about the growing influence of Hezbollah and Iran in the region.
According to the Mossad statement, “Brazilian security services, along with Mossad, the Israeli security community, and other international law enforcement agencies, foiled a terrorist attack in Brazil planned by the Hezbollah terrorist organization, led and financed by the Iranian regime.” The Mossad also revealed that Hezbollah has an extensive network operating in other countries as well.
The Prime Minister’s Office expressed gratitude to the Brazilian security services “for apprehending members of the terrorist cell, led by Hezbollah, with the intention of carrying out attacks on targets in Brazil associated with Israel and the Jewish community.”
The situation in the Middle East has escalated following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th. More than two hundred hostages were taken during this incident. Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the beginning of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country is in a state of war.
The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah has expressed support for Hamas, leading to rocket attacks from both Israel and Lebanon. On October 19th, the Israeli army announced that border areas of the country were targeted by shelling from Lebanese territory, with several anti-tank rockets being fired towards the kibbutz of Manara, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Experts have raised concerns that Hezbollah could potentially overwhelm Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system if the conflict in the Middle East escalates further. Bloomberg reports that the Lebanese Shiite organization has the capability to suppress Israel’s defense system.
Earlier, Israel had referred to the potential involvement of Hezbollah in the war as a “fatal mistake.” This highlights the grave implications of Hezbollah’s intervention in the ongoing conflict in the region.
