Independent Candidate RFK Jr. Gains Support Among Young Americans in Swing States, Poses Threat to Biden

In a closely watched race for statewide offices, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has emerged as a real contender, particularly among young Americans in critical battleground states. According to a recent poll published by The New York Times and Siena College, Kennedy has garnered more support among Americans under 45 than both President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The poll reveals that 34 percent of registered voters between the ages of 18 and 29 are backing Kennedy for president, surpassing Trump’s 29 percent and Biden’s 30 percent. Even in the 30-44 age group, Kennedy maintains a slight lead with 31 percent support, compared to Biden and Trump’s matching 30 percent.

However, Kennedy’s popularity wanes among older age groups, with his lowest numbers coming from Americans aged 45 and above. In the 45-64 age group, Kennedy trails behind Trump, who carries 41 percent, and Biden, who carries 31 percent, with only 20 percent support. Among registered voters aged 65 and above, Kennedy only secures 17 percent, while Trump and Biden capture 37 percent and 39 percent, respectively.

Kennedy’s growing appeal among young Americans comes as he embarks on an independent bid for the White House, after announcing last month that he would no longer campaign as a Democrat. “Something is stirring in us, saying it doesn’t have to be this way,” Kennedy declared, emphasizing Americans’ desire to reclaim their freedom and independence.

During his announcement, Kennedy called for unity and denounced the influence of corporations and political parties, as well as the “mercenary media.” He argued that politicians’ tactics of pitting people against each other are part of a larger scheme to maintain control.

While Kennedy’s surge in popularity poses a significant threat to Biden’s campaign, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain momentum and secure support across all age groups. Nonetheless, his appeal among young Americans highlights a growing dissatisfaction with the two major political parties and a desire for change.

As the race for the White House intensifies, Kennedy’s independent bid may have far-reaching implications for the outcome of the election. With his unique stance and ability to attract younger voters, Kennedy could potentially disrupt the traditional political landscape and reshape the dynamics of the 2020 presidential race.

Overall, Kennedy’s unexpected rise underscores the importance of paying attention to independent candidates and their potential impact on the political landscape. As the November election draws closer, all eyes will be on how this new contender continues to shape the race for the White House.
