House Oversight Committee subpoenas Biden family members for testimony in investigation

The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and their business associate Rob Walker, as part of its ongoing investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings. The committee has also requested transcribed interviews with several other individuals connected to the Bidens, including Sara Biden, Hallie Biden, Elizabeth Secundy, and Melissa Cohen. These subpoenas come as the committee follows the money and uncovers evidence of how Joe Biden and his family benefited from their business ventures.

Financial records obtained by the committee earlier this year revealed that members of the Biden family received over $1 million in payments from accounts related to Walker. Hallie Biden, in particular, received a payment of $25,000 from Walker’s account in March 2017. Walker was involved in a joint-venture called Sinohawk Holdings, which aimed to partner with the Chinese energy firm CEFC.

The House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer, is determined to bring transparency and accountability to the American people. In contrast to President Biden’s previous statements, these bank records provide concrete evidence of the Bidens’ involvement in questionable business practices that prioritized their own interests over those of the United States.

The subpoenas and interviews requested by the committee are part of a broader investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings and their potential impact on President Biden’s actions while in office. This investigation, led by Comer, feeds into the House impeachment inquiry against President Biden, which aims to determine if he abused his office or committed any high crimes or misdemeanors.

Earlier this month, Comer subpoenaed personal and business bank records belonging to Hunter Biden and James Biden, which revealed new lines of questioning regarding President Biden’s knowledge and involvement in his family’s business affairs. According to these records, President Biden received $40,000 in “laundered China money” from James Biden and Sara Biden’s bank account. The money trail begins with Hunter Biden demanding a $10 million payment from a CEFC associate in July 2017, claiming that his father was aware and would intervene if necessary.

In a WhatsApp message, Hunter Biden allegedly told a Chinese business associate that he and his father would ensure consequences if the associate did not follow their directions. The $10 million wire was intended for the SinoHawk Holdings joint-venture, which involved Hunter Biden, James Biden, Walker, and Tony Bobulinski, a former business associate. Bank records show that the funds were sent to Hudson West III, a joint-venture established by Hunter Biden and a CEFC associate, who then sent $400,000 to Owasco, P.C., a separate entity controlled by Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden subsequently wired $150,000 to Lion Hall Group, a company owned by James Biden and Sara Biden.

Comer highlights a series of transactions that raise concerns about potential financial impropriety. Sara Biden withdrew $50,000 in cash from Lion Hall Group and deposited it into her and James Biden’s personal checking account, followed by a $40,000 check to Joe Biden, labeled as a “loan repayment.” Financial records also reveal a $200,000 direct payment to Joe Biden in 2018, in the form of a personal check from James Biden and Sara Biden, also labeled as a “loan repayment.”

Concerned about the nature of these transactions, Comer has demanded documentation from the White House to confirm that these checks were indeed personal loan repayments. However, the White House has not yet complied with these requests.

The House Oversight Committee, in collaboration with the Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means, remains committed to following the facts and delivering the transparency and accountability the American people demand and deserve. The testimony and evidence gathered through these subpoenas will contribute to the larger impeachment inquiry, as Republicans seek to determine whether President Biden abused his office or committed any high crimes or misdemeanors.
