German Armed Forces to Withdraw Missile Defense Systems from Poland

The German Armed Forces have announced their decision to cease the deployment of their missile defense systems (Patriot) and air defense systems (PVO) in Poland, starting from November 10. This decision was made public by the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, according to a report by Reuters.

Approximately 300 German soldiers currently stationed in Zamosc, a city in Poland located about 60 km from the Ukrainian border, will be withdrawn along with the Patriot systems. The relocation of the military personnel responsible for operating the air defense systems will commence next week.

The command of the air defense will be transferred back to Poland, as stated in the report.

Pistorius expressed his appreciation for the solidarity displayed by both Poland and Germany in defending NATO’s eastern flank. He also thanked the Polish military and local residents for their warm reception of the German soldiers during their deployment of the missile defense systems.

In January, two air defense systems were delivered to Poland from Germany.

Previously, the Polish Minister of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak, accused Germany of violating the confidentiality of negotiations regarding the Patriot missile defense systems.
