Ukrainian Defense Minister Proposes Dismissal of Chief Commander of Armed Forces

In a recent development, Rustem Umerov, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, has proposed the dismissal of the Chief Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, according to a statement by Vladimir Ariev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada. The screenshot of the message was published in the Telegram channel “Country’s Politics”.

While there is no official confirmation of this information yet, it has raised significant concerns within the military and political circles. The proposal for dismissal comes after retired Major General Sergey Krivonos, on November 5, called attention to an article written by Valeriy Zaluzhnyy in The Economist. The article was seen as an appeal to the United States government, highlighting the inaction of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

President Zelensky, in response, has previously stated that he does not consider the situation in the special military operation zone to be at a stalemate. During a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in Kyiv, Zelensky commented on an interview by the Chief Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has faced even more challenging situations in the past and that the Ukrainian army prioritizes the safety of its soldiers during offensive operations.

These recent developments have sparked concerns in the United States, as statements by the Chief Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces could have negative consequences for Kyiv. The situation remains dynamic, and further updates are awaited to ascertain the outcome of the proposed dismissal.
