Russian Intelligence Agency Works to Secure Release of Russian Citizens Held by Hamas

The Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergey Naryshkin, has announced that the Russian intelligence agency is actively working to gather information about Russian citizens who have been taken hostage by the Palestinian movement Hamas, according to RIA Novosti.

“Yes, we are working on it,” replied Sergey Naryshkin when asked about the matter.

Previously, the country’s ambassador to Russia, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, commented on the Kremlin’s official representative Dmitry Peskov’s statement regarding progress in negotiations for the release of Russian nationals from captivity.

On October 7, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, capturing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. The Israeli government declared a retaliatory operation and is currently conducting airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and carrying out ground operations in the region.

As reported earlier, among the captured hostages are at least eight Russians. Russian diplomats are working tirelessly to free their citizens from captivity.

Earlier, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs identified an obstacle to the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip.
