A shocking incident occurred at an assisted living facility in Casselberry, Florida, where a nurse allegedly assaulted an elderly patient, causing facial fractures. The nurse, identified as Kassandra Aihe, 24, was arrested and charged with battery on a person at least 65 years old, according to the Casselberry Police Department.
The incident took place when the patient was walking down a hallway of the facility around 10:30 p.m. Aihe noticed the patient and attempted to assist her back to her room. However, the patient reportedly became combative, leading Aihe to grab and pull her hair in an attempt to control her, as captured by surveillance footage.
Eventually gaining control, Aihe forcefully pushed the patient into her room, where she allegedly struck the patient’s face with an object and slammed her face against the wall. The disturbing incident continued for about five minutes until another staff member intervened. Upon entering the room, the staff member discovered the patient bleeding from her face.
Following the incident, the patient’s face became severely bruised, leading to her hospitalization two days later. Doctors confirmed that she had suffered facial fractures and a broken nose. It was also revealed that the patient is unable to make decisions on her own behalf, prompting her husband, who holds power of attorney, to express his intention to press charges against Aihe.
The arrest report states that Aihe went beyond her duties by physically forcing the patient to her room and using excessive force, including pulling her hair. As a result, Aihe was taken into custody and later released on a $5,000 bond after being transported to the Seminole County Jail.
