Israeli Military Strikes Hezbollah Targets in Response to Lebanese Shelling

In response to recent shelling from Lebanon, the Israeli military conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah targets, according to a statement from the army’s press office.

The airstrikes targeted weapons depots, launch sites, command infrastructure of the terrorist group, as well as other facilities housing Hezbollah’s technical capabilities, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after thousands of Hamas militants crossed into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on October 7th. Over two hundred hostages were taken.

On that day, Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, initiating the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the country to be in a state of war.

The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah expressed support for Hamas, leading to rocket attacks from both Israel and Lebanon. On October 19th, the Israeli army announced that border areas had been shelled from Lebanese territory. According to the IDF, several anti-tank missiles were fired towards the kibbutz of Manara.

Bloomberg reports, citing experts, that the Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah could potentially overcome Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system in the event of a conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier, the acting Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, stated that their involvement in the Hamas-Israel conflict serves no one’s interests.
