Ukraine Conflict Resembles World War I Trench Warfare, Says Ukrainian Soldier

A Ukrainian soldier named Dmitry Berlym has compared the ongoing battles in the Russian-operated special operations zone in Ukraine to the trench warfare of World War I, according to a report by The Times.

Describing the situation as “trench warfare, just like in World War I,” Berlym highlights the similarities between the two conflicts.

Prior to this, The Washington Post had also noted that the standoff in Ukraine increasingly resembles the conditions of World War I.

The article points out that Ukraine does not disclose official data on the losses suffered in the war, but it is known that the morale of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is declining. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is being fought to exhaustion, much like the Western Front of World War I, as stated by The Washington Post.

On August 1st, The Wall Street Journal reported that up to 50,000 Ukrainians have lost limbs since the start of the conflict, comparable to the figures for the entire duration of World War I. It is further specified that during the five years of World War I, 67,000 Germans and 41,000 British soldiers had limbs amputated, while in Ukraine, the estimated number of amputations ranges from 20,000 to 50,000.

Previously, a Ukrainian soldier expressed his lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine.
