Rotation of Russian Peacekeeping Contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh Completed

The rotation of personnel in the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh has been completed, according to a bulletin from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The military department also announced the completion of the shipment of weapons and military equipment to Russia for planned repairs.

Prior to this, it was reported that Russian peacekeepers had withdrawn from posts in the Mardakert and Martuni regions of Karabakh.

On September 19, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan announced the start of a local anti-terrorist operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The department stated that the objective of the operation would be to suppress “large-scale provocations” in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as disarm and withdraw Armenian army units from the region. The next day, the Russian defense department reported the achievement of an agreement between the forces of Karabakh and Baku.

After the operation, Azerbaijan called on Armenia to conclude a peace agreement, the work on which the parties intensified at the beginning of 2023. In particular, they agreed on mutual recognition of territorial integrity, which means that Yerevan officially agreed to consider Karabakh as part of Azerbaijani territory. However, Armenia noted that there is still a lack of mutual understanding on several key issues.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the demand for the role of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh.
