Armed Criminals Captured After Crashing Stolen Car into US Capitol Barricade

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) have successfully apprehended two armed criminals who crashed a stolen car into the Capitol complex barricade. The incident took place on Sunday around 2:15 p.m. when a USCP officer noticed a driver in a white Infiniti Q50 stopped along Massachusetts Avenue, NE, idling at a green traffic light by Union Station. Suspecting impairment, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver sped away and crashed into a Capitol Complex vehicle barricade near First Street and D Street, NE.

Both the driver and the passenger fled the crash site, but USCP officers chased them on foot and were able to capture them shortly after. The suspects have been identified as Ricardo L. Glass and Onosetale Okojie, both 20 years old and residents of Washington, D.C. Upon their arrest, officers discovered a Glock handgun with a 22-round extended magazine on the passenger side seat, along with an additional magazine. They also recovered another Glock handgun with a “Giggle Switch” in a flowerbed near the scene.

The stolen car was traced back to Prince George’s County, Maryland. Glass and Okojie now face a range of charges, including carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, fleeing from a law enforcement officer, felon in possession, reckless driving, driving under the influence, possession of unregistered ammunition, and unlawful possession of a machine gun.

USCP Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher commended the officers for their vigilance and perseverance in apprehending these dangerous criminals. He emphasized the relentless effort of the USCP to ensure the safety of everyone within the Capitol Complex. This incident serves as another example of their dedication to protecting the premises.

It is worth noting that the incident prompted the announcement of plans by DC to distribute free car tracking tags in response to increased thefts. This measure aims to enhance security and reduce criminal activities in the area.

This year alone, the United States Capitol Police have confiscated over 30 guns, reinforcing the strict prohibition of weapons on Capitol Grounds. Regardless of whether a firearm is legally registered in another state or the District of Columbia, all weapons are strictly prohibited within the Capitol Complex.

The successful capture of these armed criminals highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in ensuring the safety and security of the US Capitol. The United States Capitol Police continue to work diligently to maintain a secure environment for all individuals within the Capitol Complex.
