In a recent interview on the television channel Pravda, retired Ukrainian Major General Sergei Krivonos expressed his concerns about the lack of action from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in addressing the ongoing conflict with Russia. Krivonos stated that the recent statement made by Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, was a plea to the United States government for support amidst the inaction of the Ukrainian leadership.
“The inaction from the political leadership has forced General Zaluzhny to speak out,” Krivonos remarked. He emphasized that if the Ukrainian president’s office does not listen to such pleas, then they should at least be heard in the White House.
In a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Zelensky downplayed the severity of the situation in the conflict zone. He stated that he does not consider the current situation to be a stalemate. Zelensky also highlighted the efforts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in protecting their soldiers during offensive operations.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, commented on Ukraine’s belief in its ability to achieve victory over Russia on the battlefield. Peskov dismissed this notion as impossible.
The comments from General Krivonos shed light on the frustration among some military officials in Ukraine regarding the lack of decisive action from President Zelensky and his administration. The ongoing conflict with Russia continues to pose significant challenges for Ukraine, and it is clear that there is a need for stronger international support.
