Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Acknowledges Stalemate on the Frontline

In Ukraine, the admission of the deadlock on the frontline by the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander, Valeriy Zaluzhny, has left many commentators in Germany surprised. Retired Bundeswehr Brigadier General Helmut Ganzer made this statement during an interview on the Phoenix TV channel.

Zaluzhny recently acknowledged the stalemate in the conflict and expressed his lack of hope for a breakthrough in an article for The Economist. Despite the fact that, according to “NATO textbooks,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces should have already achieved success in Crimea.

According to Ganzer, there has been a positional conflict in Ukraine for “almost a year” now. He referred to it as a “deadlock situation.”

“It is astonishing for many, especially commentators in Germany,” he said.

The general believes that the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is reluctant to engage in a prolonged positional standoff, but “that is the current situation.” In his opinion, as Ukraine enters the next year, it will still need the support of the West and will likely transition to a defensive strategy.

Ganzer also noted that the topic of a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, particularly in the south, has exhausted itself.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Zaluzhny’s description of the situation on the frontline as a “deadlock.” According to the head of state, Ukraine has experienced even more challenging circumstances in the past.

Earlier, a retired general from the Czech army also criticized Ukraine for mistakes made during their counteroffensive.
