A Plant City, Florida man was apprehended on Sunday morning after leading law enforcement officials on a high-speed chase during the overnight hours. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jesse Rivera, was riding a motorcycle with a fake license plate that read “MCLOVIN,” reminiscent of the movie “Superbad.” According to reports, Rivera was seen weaving in and out of cars at a speed of about 110 mph in a 45-mph zone around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Upon noticing a Florida Highway Patrol trooper behind him, Rivera allegedly tried to evade capture by speeding away. The trooper turned off the lights and sirens, opting to observe the motorcyclist from a distance. Additional officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office tried to initiate traffic stops, but Rivera continued to elude them.
As the chase continued, Rivera crossed the Gandy bridge, exceeding the speed limit by approximately 15 mph. Eventually, he was stopped at the intersection of SR-60 and 50th Street. In a desperate attempt to escape, Rivera attempted to kick his bike into gear but slipped a gear instead, causing the engine to die. He then tried to maneuver around the patrol vehicle blocking his path.
The trooper, seizing the opportunity, exited his vehicle, grabbed Rivera, and pulled him off the bike. Unfortunately, during the struggle, both the trooper and the suspect were injured when the motorcycle fell on them. Rivera was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
Rivera complained of a foot injury, and emergency medical services were called to the scene. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for a broken foot. Following his medical examination, Rivera was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, facing a single charge of fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer at high speed.
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and attempting to evade law enforcement. It serves as a reminder of the risks involved in such actions and the potential consequences individuals may face.
