Confusion Surrounds Dismissal of Ukraine’s Former Special Operations Forces Commander

Former Commander of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, Major General Viktor Khorenko, has expressed his confusion over the reasons for his dismissal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Ukrainian newspaper “Strana.ua,” Khorenko stated, “I don’t know the reasons… I don’t understand what happened.” The former military official also mentioned that the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, was unable to clarify the grounds for his dismissal.

Khorenko revealed that he learned about his dismissal through the media but declined to comment on whether he had any conflicts with the President’s Office or any representatives of the command.

On the eve of this event, President Zelensky signed a decree appointing Colonel Sergey Lupanchuk as the new Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On October 3, Politico reported that statements made by Chief Commander Valeriy Zaluzhny regarding the conflict with the Russian Federation reaching an impasse had sparked debates in the US Congress on whether to continue supporting the Ukrainian army.

Earlier, Khorenko had reported a difficult situation in Bahmut (Artemivsk).
