However, the school system did send a generic email to parents emphasizing the dangers of fentanyl and acknowledging drug use among students.
Sheriff Chapman expressed disappointment with the school system’s communication and sent his own email to parents, specifying that his office is investigating at least eight opioid-related overdoses, including seven in the last three weeks. Chapman emphasized the need for transparency and accurate information to ensure the community is aware of the situation.
Superintendent Spence defended the school system’s approach, citing privacy concerns and the need for further exploration of privacy issues. He also commended the school staff’s efforts in addressing the drug issue and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl.
Governor Youngkin, who recently issued the executive order, has made parental rights in education a focal point of his campaign.
