Ukrainian Conflict Enters a Prolonged Phase, Poses Risks for the Country, Says Ukrainian Commander

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, has stated that the Ukrainian conflict is transitioning into a prolonged phase, which poses significant risks for the country. He made these remarks in an article for the British magazine The Economist.

Zaluzhny writes, “The biggest risk of a protracted positional war is that it could extend for years and exhaust the Ukrainian state.” He emphasizes that Ukraine has reached a technological development level that puts them in a deadlock.

According to The Economist, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has no doubt that a protracted conflict is beneficial for Russia, a country with three times the population and an economy ten times larger than Ukraine’s.

Zaluzhny states that while the Ukrainian Armed Forces currently have enough soldiers, the longer the combat actions last, the more difficult it will become.

In his article, he also asserts that for Ukraine to achieve victory, they need to discover a new invention, similar to the discovery of gunpowder in the past. If this does not happen, “sooner or later, we will find ourselves simply lacking people to fight.”

On November 1st, military expert Alexander Artamonov stated that active defense allowed Russia to take the initiative in the military operation zone.

Previously, a retired general of the Czech army highlighted Ukraine’s mistakes during the counteroffensive.
