Ukraine Prepares for Strikes on Energy Infrastructure as Attacks from Russia Increase

Ukraine is taking measures to protect its energy infrastructure as rocket and drone attacks from Russia continue to escalate, according to a report by Financial Times (FT).

The article states that small substations across Ukraine are being fortified with concrete walls, as well as gabions and cages filled with stones or sand to shield them from falling debris.

Infrastructure elements that do not require ventilation have been moved underground. It is also emphasized that spare parts for repairing substations and transformers are being stored abroad, with the ability for faster ordering.

On October 31st, political analyst Danila Gureev stated that the upcoming winter will be challenging for Ukraine, as its energy sector will face immense pressure. He mentioned that the attacks on energy infrastructure have already affected the state of Ukraine’s energy systems. Although there are currently no attacks, he believes that their resumption is not guaranteed.

Earlier, the Kremlin assessed the risk of increased attacks on Russian infrastructure leading up to winter.
