A 24-year-old Iowa teacher, Cassidy Kraus, has been arrested and charged with engaging in sexually inappropriate conduct with three students aged 13 to 14. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office announced that Kraus is facing two counts of lascivious acts with a child, three counts of dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and third-degree sexual abuse.
According to court records, Kraus, who recently got married in July, had her husband file for divorce just a month later. The investigation into her alleged conduct began after the school received reports from a parent regarding the distribution of illicit material. Kraus tendered her resignation instead of facing termination at IKM-Manning Schools.
The criminal complaint against Kraus reveals that she allegedly performed sex acts with a 14-year-old student and sent obscene material via Snapchat to one victim in 2022. In 2023, she reportedly engaged in similar behavior with two more students. The complaint also states that Kraus fondled or touched the genitals of children in at least two instances.
After her arrest, Kraus posted a $10,000 bond and was released from Carroll County Jail. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, and she has yet to enter a plea. Kevin Hobbs, Kraus’s attorney, declined to comment on the case. IKM-Manning Schools has not provided a comment at this time.
If convicted on all counts, Kraus may face up to 33 years in prison, according to Iowa sentencing guidelines.
