Former fighters of the private military company (PMC) “Wagner” have established a new unit called “Kamerton” within the special forces group “Ahmat” and are currently undergoing combat training in Ukraine. The formation of this unit was confirmed by the deputy commander with the callsign “011” in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The “Kamerton” unit consists of former PMC fighters who hold various positions such as commanders, armored group members, artillerymen, and assault groups. The deputy commander revealed that the crews of the armored groups and artillery are exclusively comprised of former “Wagner” employees, while the assault units have an estimated 60% of former employees, including commanders. The remaining members of the unit are described as new recruits.
In a significant development, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, announced on November 1 that former medical workers from the “Wagner” PMC will be joining the ranks of the “Ahmat” units. This move further reinforces the presence and influence of former “Wagner” personnel in Ukraine.
The transfer of over 170 ex-fighters from the “Wagner” PMC to “Ahmat” was confirmed by Kadyrov on October 29. However, earlier speculations suggesting the integration of the “Wagner” PMC into the Russian National Guard were debunked by officials in the State Duma.
This development raises concerns about the ongoing involvement of private military companies and their personnel in the conflict in Ukraine. The formation of the “Kamerton” unit and the incorporation of former “Wagner” fighters into the “Ahmat” special forces highlight the complex dynamics and potential ramifications of the situation.
