Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister, Ruslan Zhaksylykov, has stated that the country is considering sending its peacekeeping forces to the Golan Heights for a mission. This announcement comes as tensions continue to rise in the region.
“We have already made agreements, and it is a testament to the competency of the Kazakhstan Armed Forces and the policies implemented by our state,” said Zhaksylykov.
The Kazakh Defense Ministry is currently exploring the possibility of conducting a peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights. This move comes after recent reports of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deploying military equipment and reservists to the area.
The Golan Heights, previously part of the Syrian province of Al-Quneitra, is primarily inhabited by Druze, a distinct ethno-religious group of Arabs. However, following conflicts and military actions in 1967 and 1973, a significant portion of the territory was captured by Israel.
In 1981, Israel unilaterally declared sovereignty over the region, a decision that has not been recognized by the United Nations Security Council.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel was embarking on a “massive attack like never before.”
As Kazakhstan considers its involvement in the Golan Heights, the situation in the region remains tense. The deployment of peacekeeping forces could potentially contribute to stability and serve as a diplomatic effort to address the ongoing conflict.
