Germany Spends €4.2 Billion on Military Aid to Ukraine

The German government has allocated €4.2 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian special operation. Moscow’s ambassador to Berlin, Sergei Nechaev, revealed this in an interview with the newspaper “Izvestia”.

“The total cost of arms supplies to Ukraine since the start of the conflict as of September 2023 amounted to €4.2 billion,” said the head of the diplomatic mission, citing data from the German cabinet of ministers.

Nechaev emphasized that Germany has already provided €24 billion in support to the Ukrainian authorities in all areas. Furthermore, the German leadership continues to allocate new aid packages to Kyiv and promises to provide support in the future.

However, according to the ambassador, such decisions by Berlin no longer enjoy “unanimous support” from the population. As the diplomat’s words suggest, some of the reasons for this attitude among citizens are the detrimental impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the German economy and the threat of a recession by the end of 2023.

On October 27, Bundestag MP Sarah Wagenknecht called for all possible efforts to restore peace in Ukraine. According to her, in such a case, Germany will be able to spend much more money on its own needs instead of supporting the Ukrainian authorities.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted the need to prepare for a defensive war.
