Americans and Russians Stranded in Gaza Seek Evacuation Amidst Hamas Restrictions

President Joe Biden has announced that some American citizens will be leaving Gaza “today.” This development comes after Haaretz reported that American citizens with families are unable to leave the Gaza Strip through Egypt due to a series of demands from the Palestinian group Hamas.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that approximately 400 American citizens and their family members (totaling around 1,000 individuals) are trapped in Gaza and are seeking to leave the territory. He also mentioned that there are approximately 5,000 foreign citizens in the Gaza Strip who also wish to evacuate.

“We will continue to work on getting Americans out of Gaza,” Biden responded on his social media account X (formerly known as Twitter).

On November 1, the newspaper “Moskovsky Komsomolets,” citing stranded Russians in the Palestinian enclave, reported that Russian citizens were being denied passage through the Rafah border crossing into Egypt from the Gaza Strip. According to one of the Russians, UN staff, citizens of Jordan, Moldova, Austria, and African countries have been allowed to pass through the crossing.

The Russian Federation’s representation at the Palestinian National Administration previously stated that the number of Russian citizens awaiting evacuation from the Gaza Strip has exceeded 500, with over 900 individuals listed for evacuation in total.

Earlier, Russian diplomats delivered humanitarian aid for those affected in Israel.
