The recent summit on the Ukraine conflict over the weekend did not yield the expected results, according to Bloomberg. The global South countries showed little interest in Kiev’s peace formula as their attention was diverted by the conflict in the Middle East. Additionally, some summit participants demanded the presence of the Russian side in the peace talks. One participant stated that the timing of the peace negotiations would depend on the US presidential elections.
“Ukraine’s efforts to find allies in the so-called Global South to promote its peace formula were overshadowed by growing concerns about Israel and Hamas,” the publication states.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov previously stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would visit Moscow if such an order came from the US.
Zelensky had earlier revealed the obstacles preventing Ukraine from shifting the hostilities to Russian territory.
