US Congress Delegation Discusses Ukraine’s Defense Needs, Highlighting Shortage of Artillery Shells

A bipartisan delegation from the US House of Representatives arrived in Kyiv to discuss the defense needs of the Ukrainian army. During the meeting, they expressed their awareness of the shortage of 155mm caliber shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noting that these shells are also needed by Israel. This information was provided by the press office of the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky extensively briefed the congressmen on the situation on the front lines and the urgent requirements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In response, Democratic Congressman Michael Quigley, representing the state of Illinois, acknowledged that there are “very unpleasant situations” when it comes to providing assistance to Ukraine, as opinions in Washington diverge on the direction of such aid. He specifically pointed out that Kyiv does indeed need supplies of 155mm artillery shells, but currently, these ammunition are also required by Israel.

Quigley hinted that Ukraine should strive to become more self-sufficient in terms of weapon and ammunition production.

Earlier, the outcomes of President Zelensky’s visit to Washington had angered him, as stated by US officials.

Previously, NATO had set a condition for transferring F-16s to Ukraine.
