Newly Appointed Chair of NYC Commission on Racial Equity Under Fire for Antisemitic Social Media Posts

Pulitzer-winning playwright David Mamet raises concerns about the perception of Jews in positions of power, including within the White House. These concerns are echoed by a recent report exposing the alarming history of Linda Tigani, the newly appointed chair of New York City’s Commission on Racial Equity (CORE). According to the report, Tigani has a record of sharing antisemitic content on social media.

The report highlights Tigani’s consistent use of the phrase “from the river to the sea” in her posts. This phrase is widely used by Hamas militants and anti-Israel activists to express their disdain for the Jewish state. In a July 2020 post, Tigani wrote, “FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA! PALESTINE WILL BE FREE!!” alongside a clip from the “Day of Rage” rally in Brooklyn. During this rally, demonstrators reportedly chanted “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” in response to Israel’s plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

The report also reveals that Tigani has shared posts throughout the year that highlight Israeli attacks on Palestinians. One post in May allegedly showed an Israeli police officer assaulting a Palestinian man, with the caption expressing Tigani’s deep concern for the daily struggles faced by Palestinians.

Tigani’s appointment as chair of the Commission on Racial Equity has sparked controversy, with City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli, a Republican, pointing out the hypocrisy in her selection. Borelli criticizes the appointment, stating, “So the wokester who is supposed to call out racism has spewed some racist antisemitic garbage.”

Prior to her new role, Tigani served as the acting Chief Equity and Strategy Officer for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) since 2022, earning a salary of $143,938 in fiscal year 2022. Despite the revelations about her past comments, Tigani has not publicly addressed the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of hundreds of Israelis.

The article reached out to Tigani and the New York City Hall for comment, but there has been no immediate response.

The controversy surrounding Tigani’s appointment raises questions about the vetting process for key positions within the city government and the potential impact on the Commission’s mission to promote racial equity. Critics argue that Tigani’s past comments undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the Commission in addressing issues of racial discrimination.

As the story develops, it remains to be seen how the City of New York will address these concerns and whether Tigani will face any consequences for her social media posts.
