Israeli Authorities Plan to Allow Police to Shoot Citizens Blocking Roads During Wartime

Israeli authorities are considering passing a law that would allow police officers to shoot citizens who block roads during wartime, according to the Times of Israel. The proposed amendment, supported by Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, and approved by Attorney General Galit Baharav-Miara, would grant police officers the authority to use live ammunition against Israeli citizens.

However, even if the law is passed, police officers would still require permission from a senior officer before opening fire. The move comes as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have begun the process of restoring sections of the border with the Gaza Strip that were destroyed by Hamas militants.

The IDF is conducting round-the-clock operations to clear mines and install new security systems along the border. It was previously reported that Israeli authorities had evacuated 125,000 residents from border areas since the start of the conflict.
