The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are working to restore sections of the border with the Gaza Strip that were destroyed by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. This comes as Israel prepares for a ground operation, aiming to secure the safety of its troops in Gaza while defending the border. Notably, the restoration of the barrier, which was breached by Hamas militants in 29 locations using explosives and bulldozers, has cost $1 billion.
Israeli military personnel are conducting round-the-clock operations to clear mines along the border and install new security systems. According to the army’s statement, all necessary sensors and other equipment have been nearly fully restored.
On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the start of the “Flood Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, capturing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. In light of these events, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared that the country is in a state of war.
The Israeli Defense Forces’ counter-operation is codenamed “Iron Swords,” with one of its objectives being the destruction of Hamas. The Israeli Air Force has carried out strikes on hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must be evacuated to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in preparation for the ground operation.
Earlier, Israel’s far-right Minister of National Security, Ben-Gvir, stated that until the release of civilian hostages in Gaza, only “hundreds of tons of explosives” should be sent, with no humanitarian aid.
