US Deploys Additional Troops to the Middle East for Missile Defense

The United States has sent approximately 900 more military personnel to the Central Command’s (CENTCOM) area of responsibility in the Middle East, according to Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, as reported by TASS.

“About 900 servicemen have been sent…to the Central Command’s area of responsibility,” he stated.

The majority of these personnel are operators of air defense and missile defense systems, the Pentagon official added.

This move comes after the Wall Street Journal reported that Israel had agreed to postpone its ground operation in the Gaza Strip to allow the US enough time to deploy its missile defense systems to the region.

It was previously announced that the US would deploy nearly a dozen missile defense systems in various countries in the Middle East, including Jordan, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, ahead of Israel’s operation. The Pentagon had also stated that they would deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system and additional Patriot missile defense battalions in the region.

Earlier, the King of Jordan predicted an escalation of the situation throughout the entire Middle East.
