Larry Elder, a long-shot Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 election, announced on Thursday that he would be suspending his campaign and endorsing former President Donald Trump. Elder expressed gratitude for his supporters and acknowledged their enthusiasm and grassroots support. After assessing his campaign and the state of the race, he made the “difficult decision” to suspend his campaign.
Throughout his campaign, Elder has been vocal about what he believes are the biggest issues facing the nation. These include the crisis of fatherlessness, the belief in systemic racism, the need for a constitutional amendment to control federal spending, and the removal of Soros-backed district attorneys who allegedly refuse to enforce the law. Elder hopes that his campaign has shed light on these critical issues and sparked important conversations about finding solutions.
Elder, a conservative talk radio host, previously ran as a recall candidate to replace Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom. He entered the 2024 presidential race in April, explaining that he felt a “moral, religious, and patriotic duty” to participate.
In August, Elder faced controversy after threatening to sue the Republican National Committee (RNC) for not including him in the first GOP debate. Although the RNC determined that Elder did not meet the required threshold for individual donors and polling, he accused them of intentionally silencing him. Despite this, recent polls show that Elder’s support remains between 0-1%.
In his statement announcing the suspension of his campaign, Elder called on Republicans to unite behind Trump as their presidential candidate. He praised Trump’s leadership and credited him with advancing conservative, America-first principles and policies that have benefited the nation. Elder believes that rallying behind Trump is crucial to defeating Joe Biden and countering what he sees as Biden’s unprecedented election interference and the left’s destruction of America.
Elder expressed his gratitude towards his supporters, volunteers, and donors who invested their time, energy, and resources in his campaign. He highlighted the opportunity to meet incredible Americans who share their values throughout his campaign.
